I. Precision Medical Catheters
Precision medical catheters are a general term for luminal products connecting the inside and outside of the human body, and there are products made of different materials such as metal, plastic, and rubber.
Precision medical catheters are characterized by their small size, complex shape, high geometric accuracy requirements, high hygiene standards, and high biochemical stability.
II. Raw Materials
Medical catheter materials are diverse and include: silicone rubber, polyurethane and its block copolymers, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polymethyl methacrylate, polyurethane, polyethylene terephthalate, nylon, ABS, polycarbonate, etc.
III. Catheter Types
Medical catheters come in a wide variety of types and materials. According to their structure and function, catheters are divided into two categories: ordinary catheters and special catheters. Sheaths and intravascular stents are used with catheters.
(1) Ordinary Catheters
An ordinary catheter is a plastic tube of a certain length, with a tapered front end for easy insertion into a blood vessel; the tail end is the same as the tail end of an injection needle, for easy connection to a syringe.
(2) Special Catheters
Special catheters have relatively complex shapes and structures, and perform a variety of medical functions. Special catheters include: balloon catheters, other catheters (guide catheters, coaxial catheters, microcatheters, etc.).
(3) Sheaths
Sheaths, also known as catheter sheaths, are mainly used to guide catheters, balloon catheters, or other intravascular devices smoothly into blood vessels.
(4) Intravascular Stents
Intravascular stents can solve problems such as intimal injury and elastic recoil caused by balloon expansion.
Intravascular stents include self-expanding stents, balloon-expandable stents, shape memory stents, and retrievable stents.
