Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) Placement
2025-03-31
My name is PICC. I have served millions of people worldwide, with various intravenous therapeutic drugs flowing through me directly into your central vein, where they are rapidly diluted, significantly reducing vascular damage. With me, your body only needs some simple maintenance, significantly improving your quality of life during treatment. PICC catheters come in a wide variety of types and specifications, with different types used depending on individual needs. Among them, the three-leaflet PICC catheter, with its specially designed three-way valve structure, has a longer retention time and simpler daily care. With me, you no longer have to endure the pain of repeated needle sticks, nor will your blood vessels be "burned" by irritating drugs. You will be able to complete your infusions and transfusions easily and pleasantly.
01 Indications
1. Patients with difficulty in peripheral vein puncture and difficulty maintaining intravenous infusion.
2. Intravenous administration of drugs that are highly irritating to peripheral veins, such as: chemotherapeutic drugs, large doses of potassium supplementation, parenteral nutrition, etc.
3. Patients requiring long-term intravenous infusion (7 days).
4. Patients requiring repeated blood transfusions, blood products, and blood draws.
02 Advantages
1. Patients can move freely, ensuring their basic daily life and activities, which helps improve their quality of life.
2. Protects patients' peripheral veins and reduces the pain associated with repeated intravenous punctures.
3. Minimally invasive, with low risk of infection, and can be retained in the blood vessel for a long time.
4. Avoids damage to peripheral veins from irritating drugs, reducing the incidence of phlebitis and extravasation injuries.
5. One of the important intravenous infusion routes.
03 Precautions after catheter placement
First, you should observe the wound for any redness, swelling, heat, or pain, and any exudate. If any abnormalities are found, notify medical personnel immediately. Also, pay attention to keeping the surrounding skin clean and dry. Change the dressing and heparin cap weekly, and flush the catheter using a syringe of 10 ml or more. The PICC catheter is designed for long-term indwelling, up to one year. This is a safest treatment method, because the three-way valve PICC is a soft, elastic catheter made of high-grade medical silicone. Its tip has a three-way valve design to effectively prevent blood reflux and air entry, making it safe to use and significantly improving the patient's quality of life. You can exercise and shower with the catheter; however, when exercising, avoid lifting weights or doing pull-ups, etc. In daily life, avoid lifting objects weighing more than 5 pounds with that arm. In short, the better the catheter care, the longer the catheter can be retained.
